Vampiric Smiter maybe?
Hello all. Hope this build hasn't been talked about before.
Several days ago working on my woman's monk helping her get the skill hunter title, i capped "Vampiric Spirit". Thought it was a pretty neat skill and decided to tinker with it. Keep in mind, this is completely pve based.
16 smite
12 blood
4 prot
Totem Axe/Gordac's Hook Blood
Vampiric Spirit, banish, spear of light, vamp gaze, bane sig, holy strike, smite, rebirth
There are only 3 actual attack spells, that is so you dont tear through energy in seconds. I try not to spam vamp gaze. The damage this build can deal does make me pretty happy. Nothing i like better than massive amounts of armor ignoring damage. That spear of light skill + vamp spirit is pretty nifty. 163 dmg spike, that is if my math is correct.
There are drawbacks however. If you aren't careful you will eat through energy pretty quickly.Another big drawback is the fact that you are getting up close and personal with a soft target. A bond monk will be needed against higher level foes.
Well, any comments are welcome. Thank you for lookin'

I assume that Holy Strike is both intended as a follower to Bane Signet and to guarantee that you're in melee range?
Good Job on the build, lots of damage ftw.

Holy Strike is solely there for the bane signet combo. Its great damage for a cheap price. I like it also because it helps take a load off the energy use but still gives plenty of damage. To make sure i'm in range to make the Vampiric Spirit connect, we use a Totem Axe. Lastly, thank you for your compliments.

Uhhh, I tried this build and it eats energy really quick... but is this a mo/n or n/mo? I always like people think outside the box!

If you take a look at the party menu, you will see we are both Monk/Necro. James stated that it ate through energy so you can't sit and spam things, especially vamp gaze. If you are going to be getting hit alot put balth's on yourself otherwise you need to manage your energy in rotations on your skills.

How good does it work on defence? Is vampiric spirit an effective self-heal?

Defensively the amount of health you get from your spells won't make up for your lack of armor, however, the lifestealing isn't meant to be defensive. As for energy stealing I wish we could go mo/n/me :P
